Featured Artist for June, 2012<\/em><\/p>\n YouTube<\/a>\u00a0| BandCamp<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n Michael A. is a new Electronic Dance Music (EDM) artist whose music has been getting better and better and better. His samples are clean and well mashed, leaving the heart of the original while blending it smoothly into a very enduring dance track that is often reminiscent of what was best in retro euro and progressive trance.<\/p>\n After only a year he’s quickly approaching 100,000 views on YouTube, and his work is definitely worth checking out.<\/p>\n I first discovered Michael A. with Luna’s Anthem<\/a><\/em>, which reminded me of the bouncy and energetic beat of Stamp On The Ground (move it all around<\/a>)<\/em>. When applied to Luna and blended into a progressive but unimposing melody that energy was a Good Thing.<\/p>\n Michael A. has a few pieces on YouTube that are too horizontal for me (evidence: Today (featuring MetaJoker)<\/a>)<\/em> and I think its safe to say that the easy publishing that YouTube offers means that we will see more of each artist’s work – the good as well as the bad. \u00a0However, although it didn’t have that special something I was looking for\u00a0it was still quite tasty, and I kept coming back waiting for him to do That Thing that would make me unable to unhear his music.<\/p>\n With Michael A.’s first three track album “Operation<\/a><\/em>“, That Thing has happened.<\/p>\n Operation<\/em> is available on BandCamp<\/a>\u00a0(you name your price – but do consider giving Michael A. whatever help you can because winning is good) and hopefully we’ll see some visual artists pairing up with Michael A. soon.<\/p>\n This album features “Hush Now Quiet Now (Michael A.’s Remix)<\/em>“. \u00a0A lot of people have approached this song, but few have added anything. \u00a0But through Michael A.’s interpretation comes a a\u00a0sweet, almost tearfully retro, blending of samples of Fluttershy’s “Hush Now, Quiet Now<\/em>” with just exactly the kind of progressive trance that makes me want to type all night long.<\/p>\n The beat is very reminiscent of a Noel Sanger remix, but pulled back just enough that you won’t feel like you’re listening to something recorded before the millennium.<\/p>\n It is unbelievably awesome. \u00a0This track has almost infinite repeat appeal \u00a0I have waited a long time for someone to do justice to one of Fluttershy’s cornerstone audios, and this does it. \u00a0For me, we’re there. \u00a0Everyone can stop trying now because Michael A. has done it, and done it right.<\/p>\n The other tracks on the album are the more industrial “Synergy<\/em>” which is a bit too cross platform for my tastes, and the absolutely elating “Shake That Flank<\/em>“.<\/p>\n “Shake That Flank<\/em>” starts like a Sousa March\u00a0but quickly goes full glitter-ball Fritz Lang before opening up a box of retro electronica. \u00a0It’s a challenging set, but I think Michael A. is on the track of something greater – both minimalistic and progressive – and that is something worth keeping an eye on.<\/p>\n I know I’ve used the words “Retro” and “Reminiscent” a lot in this review, and I think it’s fair to say that what I liked about Michael A.’s music in the past was derivative and homagic. \u00a0But with Operation<\/a><\/em>\u00a0Michael A. has shown us HIS vision, and it is beautiful.<\/p>\n After an excellent reception (top 10% of all tracks tested) we are delighted to add Michael A.’s “Hush Now Quiet Now (Michael A.’s Remix)<\/em>” to our evening “Slumber Party” programming and to make him our first ever Featured Artist.<\/p>\n Its music guaranteed to make you want to not go to bed.<\/p>\n Please support Michael A. in whatever way you can. \u00a0Listen to his YouTube<\/a><\/em>\u00a0videos and like and subscribe if you agree with me that he is someone to watch, and if you have monies that you would like to share with the people who make your world more beautiful please check out his BandCamp<\/a><\/em>, click the “Buy Now” button,\u00a0and put a dollar amount in the box labeled “Name Your Price”.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Michael A.
